Construction is underway at the Brantford Airport as the site adds new hangar capacity to support more aircraft activity and improve access for operators. Four new hangars are being built as part of the airport’s growth plans in Southwestern Ontario.

For this project, Canadian Metal Buildings (CMB) is providing the building design and manufacturing support, working alongside CMB Authorized Builder Area Construction and Donovan Group, whose DonoBrace technology is being used to brace the structures.

Built for pilots, built for efficiency

Hangar projects are all about usable space and smooth access. Based on the operational needs of aircraft owners and airport teams, CMB developed user-friendly layouts intended to optimize the interior footprint and help simplify movement for pilots and ground crews.

In practical terms, that means the building system is designed around clear spans and day-to-day functionality, so operators can get aircraft in and out quickly and safely.

DonoBrace bracing technology strengthens large open spans

A key performance element in this build is the use of Donovan Group’s DonoBrace bracing system, selected for its ability to support large open spaces and to streamline installation. In this project, DonoBrace is the structural bracing technology Area Construction is installing as the hangars take shape.

CMB adopted DonoBrace as its standard bracing system in 2024, and Donovan Group notes the technology is now incorporated into CMB’s major projects.

Partners on the ground

Projects like this move forward through coordination between engineering, manufacturing, and the crew in the field. With Area Construction handling installation and CMB coordinating building design and manufacturing, the team is focused on delivering a modern hangar solution that supports long-term airport growth.

Why this matters for Brantford Airport

Additional hangar capacity helps airports attract and retain aircraft operators, and it supports regional aviation activity by providing secure, purpose-built storage. These new buildings are intended to house private hangar spaces for aircraft operators, expanding the airport’s ability to serve more users.
